I Love You...Even When You Are Grumpy

Everyone falls victim to a bad mood every once in awhile. It happens. It's human nature and part of life.

EVERYONE has bad days. Life gets stressful, plans get ruined, kids act up, you are tired; there are a number of things that can cause "grumpy pants".

How you handle your grumpy mood is really the important part of this story though.

Do you wallow in your mood ALL day? Do you bring everyone down around you? Do you just keep on being miserable? Do you use it as an excuse to be rude or mean?

Do you allow yourself to stay moody or do you try to find a way to get your self out of that bad space?

I have spent many, many, days letting my feelings overrule my entire day! In the process of my self wallowing, I am pretty SURE I took down anyone who was in my path. So much wasted energy!

The day you realize you have total control over your own mood is the day you will be FREE and HAPPY!

If you wake up with your grumpy pants on; you have the means right inside yourself to take those grumpy pants off! Whip'em off and be free!

Make a choice and do not allow yourself to slip further down the moody trail...don't go down the rabbit hole!

If you REALLY want to change your mood you can. Is it simple? Not at first, but over time, as with anything, practice will only make you better. Train that brain!

Here are a few things you can to do help.

First acknowledge you need an attitude adjustment. Admitting you have a problem is the first step; I know this sounds so cliché but it's true!

Grab your gratitude journal. Write in it! Make a list of everything in your life you are thankful for.

Just chill. Take a deep breath. Meditate. Sometimes just taking a moment to regroup your thoughts is all you need. Shake it out.

Take time to play with your pet(s). Studies show that animals can reduce tension and improve mood. Pets have been known to even help some people with mild to moderate depression. 1

On a side note... research has found that owning a pet can lower blood pressure, reduce stress hormones, and boost levels of feel-good chemicals in the brain. Consider adopting a fur baby at your local animal shelter!

Spray yourself and the space around you with an essential oil & water mist - use a scent that brings back happy memories. The power of smell is amazing! A number of behavioral studies have demonstrated that smells can trigger vivid emotional memories. 2

So when mixing your essential oils be mindful and make sure you are making a scent that will trigger GOOD thoughts. Also, don't spray it in your eyes. :P

And the final advice I have is to take a time out or a nap. Many times when we are grumpy it's because we are just simply tired. So go put yourself in a timeout and recharge.

Time out
