Don't Be A Sponge

Stop absorbing other peoples negative emotions.

Emotions such as fear, anger, frustration, sadness, and irritability are all energies.

You can potentially ‘catch’ these energies from people without realizing it. All of a sudden your good mood is not so good anymore because you were absorbing all of their "yuk".

It can be utterly exhausting to be an emotional sponge.

Learn how to express yourself without feeling guilty.

Think back about what happens to you when someone talks to you for hours and hours, nonstop.

Blah blah negative. Blah blah more negative...

You want to say something but you don’t want to be rude. So you sit there in silence. You become a sponge. You are now absorbing all of their energy. And if said person is complaining the entire time you are now absorbing NEGATIVE energy.

Don't get me wrong, you can have sympathy and empathy, and you can listen to your friends when they need it...however, you must learn how to do it while protecting your own mental wellness.

For example:

Set time limits. Knowing how much you can stand listening and then obeying those limitations are a vital role to ensure your mental well-being.

Set kind but meaningful boundaries with others who overwhelm you. Make your excuse and then exit, stage left! *whew*

Just remember to stay true to yourself and don't feel guilty!

Here are a few ideas to help protect yourself from becoming an emotional sponge.

1. Distance yourself from negative people.

2. Visualization can be powerful as well - shield yourself with a 'bubble' that no one can penetrate. Your world is safe inside this bubble. Let things bounce off it.

3. Surround yourself with positive people and positive situations. If you are going to be a sponge at least use it for good. :)

4. Meditate. Meditation can help you stay centered. Even if you only do it for a few minutes upon waking each day to set that good intention.

5. Cleanse your Solar Plexus Chakra (above the navel, below the chest) This is good to do during meditation - Place your palm on your Solar Plexus Chakra and send positive affirmations.

Examples:

"I stand up for myself and what I believe in."

"I can solve any issue that comes my way."

"My needs are important."

When your Solar Plexus Chakra is blocked it may give you feelings of fear and that you are powerless or that you do not have control.

6. Use Essential Oils. I use Aura Cacia Chakra Balancing Aromatherapy Roll-On.

From its origins in Ancient Vedic tradition to modern yoga, chakras are interconnected energy centers that influence spiritual and emotional expression. A balanced solar plexus chakra inspires the expression of personal energy.
